Job interviews and business attire

http://jobsearch.about.com/cs/interviews/a/jobinterviewtip.htm

When it comes to interviews I know what to except. I've taken a class in highschool when I was about 15 called personal career development. I had to have a mock interview and dress in business casual wear. The interview I thought was terrible because for one I was only 15 with no experience, for two I was extremely nervous and kept saying ummm every few seconds and for three I couldnt give eye contact because the weak muscle in my right eye kepting causing it turn in the opposite direction of my other eye. Very embarrassing interview. I feel Ive come a along way since then where Ive now done speeches or presentations that could last from 10 minutes to two hours in front of classes or in front of teachers, given the information that was needed, answered questions accordingly and wasn't afraid to give eye contact. I think is what's key when being interviewed, show confidence, show interest in the job or subject you are describing or being interviewed for and let your interviewer know how comfortable you can be when it comes to speaking infront of those you do not know.

Life Skills

http://www.manifestyourpotential.com/life/make_sense_of_life/life_lessons_events/life_tasks/list_of_basic_life_skills.htm

From this website there were many different types of life skills described such as knowledge skills, work, money managing, problem solving, communication and living skills. I think that some skills I need to improve on is balancing living skills and and working skills and have them coincide together. I can never handle two things at once. If I'm working on school or something work related I will probably not do any leisure actvities. If I concentrate on one class,I forget about the other. The most important goal I probably have right now is improving on balancing my life. I think before all that is done the first goal I need to complete is making a schedule to separete leisure from work and school, and do certain assignments for one class one day and assignments for another class a different day.

Psychology professional associations

http://library.gmu.edu/resources/psyc/psychorg.htm

From this website, there were many links that can be led to all different kinds of pyschology programs academys and and different sub categories of psychology. I felt that this webiste was the most helpful because it shows me all the options and gives a brief description of each website and gives you an outlook on what each organization's goal is for people and those with mental illness. If one is interested in the field of psychology such as myself this is probably the website to go to.
There was one link that caught my eye,the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, because I want to work with children, helping, teaching and just giving them a great outlook on life. It's an orgainzation that helps to teach you of childhood mental illness and get a better understanding. On the home page it gives information on where to find child and adolescent psychiatrists, facts about mental illness for families, AACAP rescourse centers etc. The organizations have many different types of centers from helping children with sevre mental illness to counciling children who have drug related problems, problems at home etc. I think that I will keep this webiste in mind most definetly as the years go on and career comes into place.

Resume Tips and Advice

http://www.resume-help.org/resume_writing_tips.htm

I found this website to be the most straight forward and informative about writing resumes. It gave me a step by step process for writing a resume from beginning to end, without giving me some unnecessary information like other resume advice websites I browsed through. Before writing your resume you should think about what type of job title you're looking for and should be specific on what kind you want.

Some points that the website made that were helpful to me were, when writing the body of your resume, it should be clear and short and have the use of strong words because the employer looking at your resume will not read it for then 30 seconds; it is most important to get the his/her attention. It is always best to have your strengths and potential stand out and have your strongest of skills be put first, rather than at the bottom because this emplyoer might not read that far down. Overall you resume is to be short, strong and clear. Without these you will have a better chance of this employer to through your resume in the garbage rather than calling for an interview.

First week of class

During the first week of class there were many actitivies we did in and out of class to help get to know others and our future goals. I felt that these activities helped me and other students get to know one another become comfortable and when time comes to speak or give a speech in front of the class it will not be as nerve racking. When reading chapters 1,2,3 in the textbook, it helped me narrow down my goals or worries for the future. I know what goals I can accomplish for the short, yet will still be developing goals for the long term. As this course goes further on, I hope to check off goals for the short term and add goals to the long term.

Chapters 1,2,3

In Chapter one I felt like one segment I could relate to were the education and career dilemmas. I want to be a pshychairtist and it's really something that I feel I'm commited to and have really felt like I've made up my mind about the career field I want to go into. The problem I keep having is mostly about medical school. It doesnt matter to me how many years I have to attend, I don't mind that one bit. The problem is really the cost for the most part and the doubt that I won't get in. I feel I just haven't looked hard enough for scholarships and grants that can be given out. It's all about organization and balancing everything to get things done which i lack because there is so much going on in my life already, which is what I will be working on.

In chapter two and three I felt that I expected the results I've gotten in the work values survey and is kind of simliar to my results that I got while takin the Myers Briggs test. I feel like I know what what my interests are and how well I communictae with others depending on the situation. At this point in ones life many still do not what they want, who they are or who they want to be. When I first came to LaGuardia I wanted to actually major in deaf studies because in the high school I went to, the only language they had to offer was American Sign Language and I found myself really interested in the language and kind of inspired to help other people become open minded about the deaf community, but I always thought about being a psychiatrist, I always wanted to help others, teach nd try to get those to have a positive out look on things. When I took a psychology class at LaGuardia I was for sure it was really what i wanted to do.

Myers Briggs Test

When taking the Myers Briggs test the first time i took the test my results were Introvert Intuitive Thinker Judger and the second time i took the test the only thing that changed was thinker, where I instead got the result of feeling. Ive taken this test before and for the most part Ive alwasy gotten the same results introvert Intutive nd Judger alwasy stayed the same while thinker and feeler never did. I felt that by taking this test I learned that my answers really depend on what situation I'm in like others have said. For example if there were a question asking if I was always late or if I like big crowds I think my answer would have to depend on where it is and who's there. If it's something thats important to me I feel I would be early but if it were something I didnt like or didnt care for, Id probably be somewhat late so I wouldnt have deal with it for the amount of time I orginally had to stay. Overrall I feel like if I take this test a countless amount of times eventually I could probably predict my results before Ive gotten them and might even be able to analyze some questions and predict which type (feeler thinker introvert etc) it could be applied to.
